So I took the plunge to update to El Capitan as I kept getting the stupid update box, I figured why not get the latest and greatest... it turns out the latest and greatest also means my trustworthy Canon MX300 no longer works...there are no drivers for it.

Thank you Apple.

Is there a way to easily downgrade to Mavericks or Yosemite? Or rather, upgrade?

We've talked about back-up clones or disk images rather incessantly. Here is where they are worth their weight in gold. Simply boot from the back up drive, then clone back. Obviously when doing a major OS change it is super critical to do a complete test drive before writing over the old system clone.

Not at all sure how well TimeMachine would work in these circumstances. Will let those who use it comment on that.

Does this help?

(It's for Yosemite, but it may also apply to El Capitan)

And if CubaMark's suggestion doesn't work then gutenprint has the drivers for the MX300

Thanks, that actually worked. I event went to the Canon main page for software support and it didn't list anything for El Capitan....but it did have Yosemite, but I didn't bother to try it...

I really don't like the 'flat' look apples has been going for. I figure it is just a phase...a new designer will eventually come back and totally re-design everything to give them depth too.
