Hello all:

I was wondering if anyone can please tell me if I can get a free copy of word for ipad 2 using OS 7.1.2? I can find a lot for OS 8 and up but nothing else.

Thanks in advance, for any help.

Regards,
Ciaochiao

If it is not in the App store then no, you cannot. I thought the iPad 2 supported iOS 8? Why not just upgrade, it is free.

Hi Wonderings:

I looked in the App Store and it's only got apps for OS 8+. And the reason I haven't upgraded is because of all the issues I've seen from other people who did upgrade. Whether here or on the apple boards, the most stable OS for my "old" ipad is OS 7.x. I was really hoping there was still a free version of word out there. Oh well, thanks anyway.

FWIW, iOS 9.3 is perfectly stable on my iPad2.... YMMV.....

Did you upgrade from the first release or the special iPad 2 release that followed? I will likely update my iPad 2 later today.

I am actually not 100% sure. I didn't notice the clamour on the net until after I had done it. I did it fairly soon after the original announcement. I don't know how to check it out????

Well now, this is very odd. Look at what my iPad 2 is telling me, even after a hard reset and then a shut down and restart:

Guess I will have to do the upgrade via my MBP.

Nope, no go there either:

UPDATE: Yesterday when I turned on my iPad 2, an update notice appeared on the screen at startup and allowed me to install iOS 9.3 without issue. All is good.

We went trough the same thing with my wife's iPad 3 a few days ago, it's "update" was "you're all up to date" at 9.2.1 yet my iPad 2 kept nagging saying 9.3 was available.

Resets didn't change anything and it didn't change until late Monday, 30th afternoon, when my son was showing my wife how some photo cloud sharing stuff worked, but don't know or think if they were even related.
