: floppy overload

hi...again smile.gif

trying to get my globalvillage 56kflex ethernet card working in my powerbook 1400. for some reason it's the only extension that's not included with system software.

i downloaded the driver but my powerbook doesn't seem to like burned cd's for some reason. i'd like to use floppies to copy the gv files but the segmented compressed files are just slightly larger than the allowed 1.44 mb.

any ideas on how to beat this? besides external hdd or flash cards?

burn another cd at the slowest setting possible.

older cd drives have trouble reading cds burned at high speeds

i haven't done this on a mac but in Winzip you can span an archive across multiple floppies. do a google search on this feature

anyone know how "you can span an archive across multiple floppies" on winzip or stuffit?

I think you have use the "paid" version of stuffit to do this. I.E. an old version of stuffit deluxe should do the trick.

I haven't tried this but another alternative is to

1) binhex the archive using the free dropstuff
2) It's now text so load it into the free version of BBedit (BBedit Lite) or any other text editing programme that does not add hidden text.
3)save the text in small sections on floppies
4)xfer the files to your 1400 and reverse the process

PS. any stuffit expander should know what to do with .hqx i.e. binhexed files

-let me know if it works
