I have decided I am going to Jailbreak my Apple TV2.

I just want to find out if the links (below) I was going to use are the correct method and what anyone else is using.

How to jailbreak Apple TV 2 5.0.2 (iOS 5.1.1) using Seas0nPass (untethered) (http://www.appletvhacks.net/2012/06/06/how-to-jailbreak-apple-tv-2-5-0-2-ios-5-1-1-using-seas0npass-untethered/)

The reason for me to jailbreak to connect to my media server with all my movies. So I think I am going to use XBMC. If there is something else better let me know as well.
XBMC 11.0 Eden for Apple TV 2 5.0 (iOS 5.1) released (+how to install tutorial) (http://www.appletvhacks.net/2012/04/02/xbmc-11-0-eden-for-apple-tv-2-5-0-ios-5-1-released-how-to-install-tutorial/)

If there is another way let me know, or this way is not the best let me know.

Thanks.

I recently switched from a Mac Mini iTunes server to a Synology DiskStation and quickly finding out that I couldn't see my movie library on the Apple TV anymore. I have two Apple TV 2's and I was going to sell them for a nice profit and buy Apple TV 3's, I'm glad I waited.

I followed the exact same instructions with Seas0nPass except I had to repeat the process twice for some reason on both Apple TVs. No matter, once finished all works great, can see my movies collection again.

Have you tried using the iTunes Server function with the Synology?

I use XBMC on a Mac mini that connects to my Synology, so I haven't had the need - but it claims to support videos too.

Joker, how far away was the remote? I've found you have to be back a little bit for it to work the best. Also you just have the USB cable plugged right?

I am about a foot away from it. The only thing plugged in is the USB cable correct. Could it be 10.8 is the issue?

It just never starts blinking once I plug into the MBP.

Ok I did that and it went to the next step. It open iTunes like it said and it sat there on a folder with a file selected, so I just clicked open. Hopefully by me clicking open all is good. iTunes does say it is restoring the apple tv software.

Fingers crossed.

Well the FC logo is there and so it looks like it is jail broken. Now the task of installing XBMC

XBMC is installed now. Now tomorrow I will connect it to my media server. Too late right now.

Well I have XBMC connected to my media server and playing my movies and tv shows.

The one problem I do have is with my Blu-Ray movies in mkv format which at times they tend to stutter. Now I connected the Apple TV to the network via wire instead of wireless to eliminate that but still have issues. Going to have to try several other things to see if I can fix this. One of them is to copy a movie over to a USB drive and connect it directly to the apple tv and see if that would improve the quality.

I haven't tried the 1channel yet because when I look to the add-ons directory in XBMC I can't find it.

You have to manually add most of the good add-ons (SSH into it). You won't find them in the general XBMC directory on the ATV.

You can grab the 1Channel zip from here 1Channel Addon | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=299612160093427) then use the add-ons instructions above to install it. I would also recommend installing the advanced settings via Fusion

Install Fusion Fusion: Easy Addon Installation for XBMC | XBMC HUB (http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/04/24/fusion-easy-addon-installation-for-xbmc/)
Install Advanced Settings Advanced Settings XML for Apple TV and iOS (Fusion Installer Method) | XBMC HUB (http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/04/25/advanced-settings-xml-for-apple-tv-and-ios-fusion-installer-method/)

I will give this a try as it may help with studdering of the 1080p mkv files. Thanks

It solved my buffer issues

Thanks for the heads up on this 1Channel add-on. Wow.

The XML still hasn't resolved the buffer issues for me. Sherlock Holmes can not even play while Avatar plays but you can notice a little lag at times. I will have to keep on trying.
