I'm not sure how you concluded "Release date confirmed" from "has not yet been confirmed", but ok.

The same way someone sees "lion released today?" and mistakes the question mark as a period.

Analysts say that in order to increase its profit margins, Apple will officially release the new OS X Lion software available for purchase before it reports its third quarter earnings next Tuesday, as said in Geek.com.
If that is to believed, they will without doubt release it tomorrow to catch the entire weekend of download sales to bolster their numbers. But then again, who can really believe yet another run of the mill story? Seriously, that's all it is, conjecture and rumour.

Apple's fiscal year ends September 25, so their third quarter would have ended June 25th

The reporting would have taken a while to compile for Q3 for them... so, July 19th will be that report. Lion won't have any bearing on their results on Tuesday if it was released tomorrow. It will effect their 4th quarter earnings for their fiscal year, which they should report sometime in October.

All this rumour is laughable. Apple's financial doesn't follow the calendar year.

Big lazy Lion roar here — and a big yawn, just as they do in the wild!!!

Isn't it the Lioness that actually gets the work and the job done??

That maybe that could be a good name for the next Mac OS X upgrade.

Is there anyone here who is actually thinking about upgrading. I've been wondering now that there has been much "leaked" information, although in truth it may be all rumour, but it looks to me as if Apple wants its Mac OS to mirror that of the iPad and iPhone.... sort of one system fits all.

So, my question is, is Lion like earlier Windows, which had DOS hidden under it, Lion would have SL under it....and then would eventually migrate to a "full-lion" base, if that is the correct phrasing.

I have a mini and was wondering if upgrading would be the way to go. I've learned over the years that once the OS changes, so does all the software and soon one is ghettoised by the tyranny of change.

Lion is very similar to SL. I tend to think of it as SL with some new apps (Mission Control, Launchpad, App Store & FaceTime baked in, AirDrop), updated apps (Address Book, Mail, Finder, iCal, Preview), and some reworking of some architecture (AutoSave, Full-Screen, Gestures, Resume, Version), and other refinements.

SL was a minor upgrade to Lepoard, and Lion is a minor upgrade to SL.

However, it is still OSX through and through. I don't see any reason not to upgrade if your machine is compatible, unless there are apps you use that will not work under Lion.
