Silly "Mac Mail" question...

Sorry to bog you guys down with this... I have a ridiculous question I need answered...

After an Epic Failure of trying this on my own, I need advice...

I am a soccer coach for a boys' U14 team. How can I manage to email all my boys without cutting and pasting all of their email addresses every time?

Honestly, I have never been so frustrated with such a mundane task....

TIA
Matt

The secret is in the Apple integration of its products. You don't do it in mail. Create a group in the separate address book application then email to that group.

Just to reinforce the reply info, it's the Address Book application that needs to be used, and not the Mail's 'Address Panel' that confuses many.

In Address Book Help, there should be a topic 'Creating groups or folders' that gives directions for setting up such a list.

Then there's always the issue of if the list of addresses should be in the Cc: or the Bcc: field.

You might want to verify that the BCC method will work for all of your players. It is my understanding that some anti-spam will block messages where the recipients address is in the BCC field, especially if the To: field is left empty.

If you are doing a lot of this, take a look at the Direct Mail app from ethreesoftware.

I just keep all the 40 or so email addresses for the weekly mailing I do in a word or email file, then copy all of them at once and paste them in the bcc field, put my own email address in the to filed and send that out.

Not any more work than setting up a group in the address book but it gives me more flexibility - I can send out the email to every one from a web email account for instance.

Or just make a "clipping" file of the addresses (from most text capable application's file) and just drag it to the appropriate email address field. No copy/paste needed.

Another silly issue with using the Address Book Group method is that it does not allow you to select which email address to use if the contact has multiple email addresses.
Apple please fix this, it is such a basic issue that has been around for a while!

Must have removed this after Tiger. Otherwise, after putting addresses in the BCC field, just hold cursor over the questionable addy and it will expand to show which address is being used and allow you to select a different one.

Hi eMacMan,

You can still do this but you have to "expand" the group first then each individual recipient is shown.
Then you can choose an alternate address for each one that needs changed.

That is quite a few steps if you have a large group.

I was thinking about choosing a specific address at the time you create the group and then you always have the correct one.
