Any chance of a new 27" iMac soon?

The reason I ask is because I'm a good candidate for working at the Apple store. (A ~20 year PC convert is nice to have.)

I'd immediately buy a 27" iMac for myself, but I'd hate myself if a new version came out a month later with a video upgrade I badly want (but is currently unavailable.)

The 5750 just isn't quite enough "oomph" for me... that 27" is a lot of pixels.

I'd say the chances are probably about 50/50 depending what you mean by soon... I wouldn't be surprised by a spring refresh sometime in the April-June timeframe if that's soon enough for you... I definitely don't think one is imminent just yet though...

As for the actual refresh the only major change in my mind will be the addition of thunderbolt... plus the usual modest spec bumps in terms of processor speed and graphics...

Just curious what you plan on doing with it that need more "oomph" than the 5750, in my experience it's quite a good graphics chip, I am not a hard-core gamer though... which is about the only thing I can think of that it might not be ideal for...

When you get hired, that would be the place to ask when a new would come out

Have several friends who work at Apple stores. They don't know any more than Joe Public does. When Apple announces product to public, that's when they learn about it. They also don't see it any earlier. Sometimes mere minutes before it goes on sale. This weekend, sales staff got to unpack iPad 2's just hours before launch.

World o' Warcraft takes a bigger graphics card to run at max settings, now that Cataclysm gave it a graphics boost. The 27" monitor has a loooootta' pixels!

That update site you mentioned had rumours of a touch-screen. YECHH! No thanks! Just gimme' better specs!

And the boss at Calgary's Apple store said they won't have iPad2's until the 25th...

That's when the iPad 2 launches in Canada. ehMax was talking about US Apple Store employees, who launched iPad 2 last Friday.

Regarding the iMac, I'd say there'll be a refresh sometimes between now and June.

The MacBook Pros just got SandyBridge. The iMac will probably be next. And I say June at the *very* latest, 'cause I can't see Apple launching it's new OS Lion in June w/o unveiling new iMacs before.

As Heart pointed out as well, the iMac is due right now for a refresh, based on historical data, so I'd expect it sooner, rather than later.

Hah.

Well then the usual caveat applies: "Buy only when you NEED, and get the BEST you can afford... and most of all, never look back".
