I have Hotspot shield installed on my Macbook Pro which I use mainly for getting around web blocks at school. However, I have recently had the program connect automatically.
What is weird is that I have exited the program from the menu bar, causing the icon to disappear. However, at times, the Hotspot shield banner will appear in my web browser, which shows that the Hotspot Shield is activated. But, upon actually opening the program, it says it is not connected. Immediately exiting the program solves the problem and disconnects the Hotspot shield, but I want to know how I can get this to stop happening.
The auto connect is perplexing but check your OS X user account's system preference pane's Login Items window to see if Hotspot is booting automatically when you start up your Mac.
Even when NOT connected that Hotspot Shield can actually be a resource hog. I have removed it from my Login Items and will boot it only when I NEED to.

I have tried removing it from my login items, as well as as dragging the icon to the dock and deselecting Open at Login, however the program still opens when I login, and randomly connects, reassigning my IP address(even after I exit the program)
