Hubby and I are considering purchasing a colour laser printer, duplex is not necessary. It would not be used a lot, so a real workhorse isnt needed.
I dont want an all in one, I already have one. It's a Lexmark POS that isnt used much, but it does the job and I got it for free. I have an HP Deskjet that must be 8 yrs old and it just keeps chugging away! I like HP products, had good luck with them.
I've been doing my research and found an HP CP1518N at the local computer store and it was $599 thru HP and now it's on for $399. I checked with Staples and it's $204. for about another week. Now there is a deal! I read reviews of this model and some people say it's slow, but that is not a big consideration for me. Some say it uses too much toner. That would be important since it's so darn expensive, tho I found a few suppliers online with better prices than Staples or even eBay.
What do you folks like or recommend? Anything to avoid? Lexmark is not on my list at all.
I dont think I want a Canon. We had a Canon inkjet that did a great job, even on photos, and then one day it up and died. It took me a long time to get to the bottom of the problem, and ages on the phone with their tech support. Finally they admitted the printer is designed to die after X changes of ink carts and cleanings! Nowhere in the papers and info I had on that printer did it say that. It just was built to quit at a given time. Oh was I mad that day. The tech dude told me I could send it to them and they'd replace the print head and it'd cost me around $70. The whole [email protected]#$%^& printer was $79. to start with, about two yrs earlier! What a waste of money that would have been.
So I threw it out, got a freebie Lexmark all in one from freecycle, and it is ok. I just use my HP Deskjet for anything that needs to look pretty good. No more Canons for me, that episode really turned me off of them.
I have Samsung... and it's a great colour laser, it's a tad slow which doesn't bother me, and you can adjust the amount of ink it uses in your system preferences. The cartridges are fairly reasonable priced.
If you check the side of the add I posted it has ink cartridges
