Upgrade to Mac Pro 2.0 GHz or 2.66 GHz?

I currently run a Dual 2.0 GHz G5.

I have an opportunity to upgrade to a 2.0 GHz Quad Core Xeon Mac Pro or a 2.66 GHz Quad Core Xeon Mac Pro. Difference is about $500.

Would I be blown away by the 2.66 machine, or would the 2.0 Intel be a satisfying upgrade? Any limitations to the 2.0?

depends what you're doing with it.

Video? Yeah go full bore. I went from a dual 1.8 to a 2.66 and I loved it. I don't know how a 2.0 would have handled.

Mostly Photoshop, and a little video editing--and getting boxed in by Intel-only software.

As someone running a Dual G5 still, I'd say since you seem to hang onto computers for a bit, get the best you can afford. That way they will last a bit longer.

I hang onto them until the computer hamstrings me--even a little--in completing work-for-pay. Sometimes I'm begging for that to happen so I can switch, but I'm honest with myself about it!

MF I am obviously biased in this regard because I have a Quad 2.66, but I would personally say spend the extra $500 ($1.50 or so per day for a year) not a whole lot really and you won't regret it.

Oh and yes you will be blown away by the Mac Pro 2.66 vs. your G5, I sure was when I moved from my G5.
