Prosumers: Mac Pro speculation...

Anyone hear rumors or have an expectation of when 8 Core Mac Pros become the standard configuration, displacing the Quad-Core? Since Apple seems to keep the same price points, I'm looking to buy an 8 Core Mac Pro at the (former) Quad-Core price.

i haven't heard anything, but i imagine they'll keep up with a single quad model along with their 8 cores.

the latter are very tempting these days. Have seen some great prices on the 08 version, but won't bite until the new year.

Well, there are some new Xeon Lynnfield processors that were announced a week ago...

And the MacRumors Buying Guide says that the Mac Pro is approaching the end of it's product lifecycle (on average...)

IME, it takes about six months from the time a new chip hits the market before they show up in Macs.

Apple has completely untied themselves from the MacWorld product announcement cycle so there's no telling when new Mac Pros might be along, but it would actually kinda make sense for them to bring new ones out in January ...
