Have the exact same problem dude. I go into sys prefs and toggle it there. It sucks.

Also, Safari beach balls for me non stop.

You may well be right rgay but these problems developed a couple of weeks after SL installation... Meanwhile did a restart which seems to have cleared the problem for the moment, although I still have had one more MS Word crash since - obviously on a Friday night, just before you head home

I notice that this behaves like a CPU overload: pretty much everything else stops when the BB comes on screen.

Do you happen to have any external drives connected at the time you get the beachballing? I was having the same issue after I upgraded the internal drive on my Mini. I swapped my internal drive into a Seagate FreeAgent external... I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the beachballs were coming up randomly for about 20-30 seconds. mguertin was actually the one who asked me about the drives. Once I removed the Seagate from the mix.. beachballing has stopped completely.

My guess is it is hanging the system as the drive starts to spin up.. honestly, I'm not sure if that's the issue.. but, it sure seems plausible.

Cheers, and good luck.

No external drives but TM is something I hadn't thought about...

I haven't upgraded to SL yet, even though I bought it within days of launch. I've read about too many issues for me to take the chance, even on a clean re-install which is my planned method. I came across this yesterday though - hopefully it might help a few of you:

I can help you with that:
TM Error Logger will show you what's stopping the show with TM backups and allow you to easily get rid of the problem file. And did I mention that it's free?

I'm in no hurry. I can wait for a few weeks until we settle a little.

Second build of Mac OS X 10.6.2 seeded to Apple developers

Mebbe this will fix some of them bugs - being over 450MB in size...

Mystery bug remains a mystery but sorted with micro update...

Despite doing the raindance and following the advice above, I was still getting my share of beach balls and crashes.

This morning software update offered me to cure my machine with what must be the smaller SW update ever: 300k as a standalone or 100k via SWU! Here is Apple's euphemistic text:

"This update addresses intermittent hard drive-related stalls reported by a small number of customers". For intermittent read every 2 minutes for 30 seconds!!!

Here is the link. Furthermore, it works!
