64-bit Kernel in 10.6
Snow Leopard GM not booting into 64-bit mode automatically, fix here | 9 to 5 Mac
Check this article out it explains the deal with it. Basically if you have a mac that has 64-bit efi then you can just hold down 6 and 4 on the keyboard at boot and it will boot to 64-bit kernel. On Xserve's it's the default boot mode.
