No I know Chealion, the OP wasn't interested in RAID for performance but for backup so I didn't mention RAID 0 because it wasn't relevant to what he wanted to accomplish.

Personally I don't use arrays for redundancy but for performance so my arrays are all striped 0 and I perform manual backups for the reasons you state.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for all your input on this one. I ended up going with 2 LACIE 2big Quadra drives.

I had to take apart the other RAID 0 drive I had and remove the HDs and then put them in the LACIE case and copy form them to the other drive - but it worked (which means it was just the controller in the external that wouldn't boot up - thank god).

They only do RAID 1 & 0 (I'm using 1), but I'm okay with that as I'll have a redundant copy of all my files and it will be current. I wish they did eSATA, but I can live with Firewire 800. This will afford me a level of protection I didn't have before and will hopefully keep things a little safer.

It was a stressful week last week... And thank you all for your input.
