Migration assistant time?

Hi Guys

Just received my brand new iMac 3.06 today!

my first attempt at the migration was via network, very bad idea! (extremely slow!) it said 20 hours.

so i went out and grabbed a 800 to 400 FW cable to do the job. It was my thought that based on the FW speed, it would take about an hour to transfer the 200GB of data and apps. It seems to suggest that it is going to take 4 hours, also it seems to go up and down in terms of time remaining ( not just down)

is all of this normal?

Seems slow, but i suppose there is more to it than the speed of FW, there are two HDDs speed capacities to account for....

any thoughts would be great!

should i cancel it and run a defrag and start over?

i could do a migration faster myself!

UPDATE

now hooked up by FW it says 19 hours!

what could be wrong with it?

seriously it is at 19 hours i could do it faster than that and not feel lile it brought corrupt stuff over ( i have trust issues since my pc days!)

thanks

it si at 2 :48 now

i was finding my old imac a bit sluggish, perhaps that was the fragmentation?

i just hope that it doesnt move any files and setting over that will slow down the new beast i am really looking forward to a speed bump!

any thoughts?

i just really dont trust taking a brand new computer ad allowing someone/thing else to set it up for me!

any way to test the drive and get an idea on health?

well, i am 3 hours in, it says 1.5 hours to go....

in my opinion this is aggravating.....

i could have re-installed office and moved all my files over in no time, hell i a could have moved the entire drive over and had things up and running in no time, i guess i just dont see the value in this process...
