i wish i could say otherwise, because i usually am on the forefront of all things web, but i still don't get twitter.

rss+ facebook babble = twitter?

if artists and musicians used twitter as a means of instantaneous broadcast, i get the model. For that matter updates from ehmac may make some sense, but individuals whose only contribution is telling the world that they are hungry or leaving work seems somehow silly to me.

perhaps i should just take twitter up as a challenge and attempt to make a hugely popular twitter stream.

Agreed. But the "beauty" of Twitter is *you* choose who you follow. If your Twitter stream is full of banality, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I keep hearing people make comments about Twitter as if its a bunch of people telling other people they have gone to the bathroom, are eating lunch etc... I find most of the time, the people have not actually tried Twitter or are going on Twitter and posting those things themselves.

It's much, much cooler than that, and as Shawn said, if you are getting those kinds of posts, you need to "follow" different people.

My favourite person to follow is David Pogue. He has constant links to very neat articles. Every day at night, he has a "Meditation of the day" which is a quick funny joke. More priceless is the followup comments he receives from thousands of his intelligent followers that he "Re-tweets"

For example:

PogueTONIGHT'S MEDITATION (via @evan1t): The bride had just three thoughts as she entered the church to get married: "Aisle--altar--hymn!"

PogueLMAO (Followup to tonight'smeditation): RT @brianwolven: Meanwhile, the groom contemplated social obligations: "Should have--pastor--over."

Every night there are really funny comments.

I've gotten tons of inside scoops and interesting tidbits from team members and owners of my favourite sports team.

Lots of neat stuff, it all depends on who you follow and what kind of information you chose to share.

I'm still getting my feet wet, but getting more into it.

See, articles like that show how badly some people fail to grok Twitter. It ebbs and flows--people will unfollow or follow others as their will or taste dictates--just like web sites! While Oprah appears to have lost a chunk of her audience, Ashton Kutcher in the meantime grew another 500k in less than a month.

Go figure.

Neither are overly sparkling examples of Twitter, yet the media focuses on them which speaks volumes of their ignorance. They don't focus on the content, just the numbers.

Twitter doesn't face an uphill battle--the users who want to retain loyal followers do.

I recently started to twitter myself. At first I can say I was skeptical about it. I have no facebook, no more myspace, haven't accessed my friendster for years and haven't accessed humblevoice for almost a year (but I do intend to start using humblevoice again).

Though I'm still new at twittering, I am finding it interesting and what I do like about it, is that it's short and simple. I am able to tie it with my tumblr blog and I will tie it all in with my own website. It's a great way to follow other fellow artists, designers, follow anything I find interesting and love. RGD of ontario is twittering too
