A friend has a Power Mac G5 tower and wants to sell it:

1.8 Ghz
2.5 GB RAM
Dual 80 GB hard drives
Airport Extreme card
Super drive
2 USB
1 Firewire 800 MB
G Force FX 5200 video card

What should he reasonably ask for this machine?

Tough call, nothing exceptional about that particular G5. Memory is cheap for them and it only has 4 slots if I recall.

It may also have the problematic power supply and it is only a single CPU with pretty tiny hard drives which also doesn't help.

I still like the G5 design but I doubt no more than $300 and maybe $400 but the used market can be weird depending on your location and the possibility of someone who really wants one nearby. eBay wasn't much help.

Last year I paid $600 for a G5 2.0GHz DP locally if that helps.

I would have to say $400 to $500 because the G5 is a pretty strong processor. It's mostly likely to able to run snow leopard. The specs on the system is really good so I suppose it would make alot of money.

i don't think it will run snow leopard - the G5 is PPC and SL is rumoured to be intel only.
