Exclamation Whither iMovie 06? Apple YANKS dl page but...

If you're an iMovie 06 fan you might want to nab the last opportunity to for its installer.

Reports indicate that Apple has pulled the webpage for downloading the installer (click that link for the brutal redirect!).

While that page is gone the DMG file is still on their servers for the time being. CLICK AWAY WHILE YA CAN!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has invested in 3rd party plugins for iMovie 06... lord knows if those vendors will ever be able to port to iMovie 08's new code.

Great info!

I downloaded this last night on the recommendation of a Mac friend. Pending the review of iMovie '09, I have it in reserve.

I don't need it and don't plan to download it but if somebody has, and wants to post a sha-1 hash or md5 checksum for the dmg, it might be helpful for others, allowing them to validate the file in the future in case Apple does pull the link...

Thanks for the link. iMovie 6 is a billion times better than iMovie 7... (Even though I greatly prefer to edit in Final Cut Pro if available). We'll see what iLife 09 has in store when I can finally get my hands on it.

I think it is being removed because iMovie 09 so far seems to work with FCE 3.5,
Or at least it has so far in the tests I've been doing with Final Cut Express 3.5.

So maybe I won't need to upgrade to Final Cut Express 4.0 just yet.

Many of us have copies of the .dmg. Apple distributed it freely. I wouldn't have a problem passing around copies if Apple 'disappears' it.....

I'm always amused by the panic that the program might disappear. It's been available for YEARS, and you couldn't be arsed to grab a copy until NOW?

rgray: you may not have a problem, but Apple would. It's not your decision to make.

You know something? Your arrogance is starting to wear quite thin.

On the one hand you are amused that any one would panic... and yet critical of anyone who did not download it "until NOW".

ONCE AGAIN, you assume that I -- and perhaps many others -- never downloaded it in the first place. I assure you that, given how important iMovie 06 is to me, I did.

Also, I would say that, given the fact that Apple has removed the page for the download that there is at least SOME cause for concern for those out there who like 06. Or did I just make up the saying that iMovie 06 "got Steve'd"?

This thread was created as a public service -- and given the overwhelmingly positive response to it, it seems your harsh criticism is off-key... or, perhaps we're the crazy ones? Well then here's to us!

I've been observing your posts for quite some time, Chas_M. You can be helpful but you should watch your opinions so that they're not always coming from an ego centric bias. You sometimes sound like the arrogant PC zealot who tries to rebut the fact that viruses are a problem based on the fact that HE never gets a virus.
