Hello to all,

Does anyone have any experience installing and using a cd-rw or combo drive in a Pismo? I'd love to hear your comments on this. Also, do you know of any Canadian sources for this gadget?

Many thank and regards!

It helps if your Pismo has the Matsushita DVD drive and if you are able to get a Matsushita UJD series combo drive (don't know about the newer DVD burner models). I have the UJDA-710 and the original DVD faceplate fits perfectly on the 710.

I found mine by talking to people in local PC shops who specialize in laptops. Someone is always trading in an older drive to get the fastest/newest model

Did one better and installed a "Superdrive"

Basically, take a look through xlr8yourmac. I selected the Toshiba SD-R6012. Bought a new one from eBay for about $170cdn.

As long as you have the dvd shell/interface from your pismo, it's about a 15 minute job of swapping the insides of the drive. There's some decent info on the above link too.

The one downer is getting the old faceplate on the new drive. If you can live with that, it'll save you hundreds off the mce offering.
