Do not relinquish your mac.com ID!

I was reading through the small print of 'Mini Me' today and I learned that you can use 'handle'@mac.com or me.com indifferently for iChat or as a Mac ID. However, the me.com one will only work as long as you have a paid-for Mini Me account.

On the other hand, mac.com is (at present) for life, not just for Christmas...

Correction: @mac.com and @me.com will be one and the same for email, Apple ID, ,mac/mobileme signin.. Both will work as the same account, interchangeably. However, according to the FAQ, they will be seperate for iChat. So current .mac users basically get 2 iChat accounts in one MobileME account ;)

... and keeping a DotMac account also allows me to not use the Dot.Meuh in French!
(For those who haven't thought about it or dont speak the language, DotMe sounds very silly in FR.)

« Bonjour. Mon adresse courriel est le abc point me point com. »

... well that's not funny.

Anyhow, aside from the sounds of it, PointMeuh is a pain in FR because I need to spell it out everytime I give my email to someone to avoid a misspell ("Attention, c'est 'm-e', pas 'm-i'). A pain. I don't have to do that with PointMac.

What do you say, life's short! :lmao:

Just to be explicit about what it means to have a .Mac address that lasts forever and a .me address (if this is the case) that does not:

iChat requires an AIM address or a .Mac address. If you signed up for the temporary .Mac service, after the 60 day trial period, you kept your .Mac iChat sign-in for life. If this is no longer the case, some people will have no reason at all to sign up for the trial .me service.
