recording software?

Hi

I recently switched from windows to mac. Prior to this switch I used 'audacity' to record and edit events (speakers) Now I've been invited to record another event and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this. I normally use my windows laptop to record these events and would like to edit this file on my mac.

Any suggestions?

Despite CubaMarks excellent reply... here's a recent thread on this topic, as an introduction to alternatives.
But I agree with him, you can just go on using Audacity if you want.

Thanks...I wasn't sure I could take the 'audacity" file from the Windows laptop and edit on my iMac...I'm still not sure, but nobody has said I couldn't, so I'll just go with it and see what happens.

I bought a $59 iTalk stereo mic (Griffin, I think) that plugs right into my iPod and records voice memos at CD quality. I've used it for recording live bands even. The voice memos are timecoded and then I just title them whatever I want when I upload them to iTunes. Cheapest and simplest recording alternative I've discovered so far.

Griffin Technology: iTalk Pro

Where'd you get it?

Ya I have one of these and have used it on occassion--my only complaint is I can only get an hour +/- and my ipod is a 30 gig only 6 months old.

Thanks......

If you can't say it an hour, perhaps it's not worth saying. Kidding! I got mine at London Drugs over in the iPods accessories section.

You can export from Audacity to WAV or AIFF. Then you'll get a clean uncompressed audio file that can import into any Mac audio application - including Audacity, GarageBand, SoundStudio, etc.

Only an hour of audio on 30 gigs?!
Thanks for the tip. That rules out using an iPod as my gig recorder.
