My DSL has been cutting out sinse I upgraded to 10.5 from 10.4.11. I have to play around in my network setting to get it going again. It seems to disconnect every few mins. I called Primus who arn't exactly Mac tech savy folks who had me do the basic modem reset, confirmed all 4 modem lights were on, account name password for PPPoe etc. but still the same issue. I noticed that in the network settings I have 3 different ethernet settings to choose from as apposed to just one when I was using tiger. Does it make a difference which one I use? Also when I used the set up assistant (which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't) it ask me for a location - is "Automatic" the best option?

i'll give it a go, but I'm not idle when it disconnects - i'll be in the middle of browsing or downloading and it just cuts out. The other strange thing I forgot to mention is that in the status bar it says i'm still connected but websites won't load and my downloads stop.

To get it replaced, you're looking at around $1000, plus labor. If I recall correctly, all of the inputs on an iMac are on the logic board, and those don't come cheap.

On your modem, does the DSL light go off during the disconnects? If so, you have what's called intermittent sync, and that's a line problem that you can complain to Bell (or it could be a Primus problem, but most likely Bell) about.
