My 17" 1996 era Sony monitor has been showing signs of dying, so I have been keeping an eye on the flyers and looking for a "good deal" on a 19" of decent quality.
Surprisingly, in the newsgroups, so guy was offering a 21" blue and white Apple Studio Display for under $300. When I called the guy to ask about it, it was a monitor that he had fixed by replacing a transistor, but because he was a PC repair shop, none of his customers were interested in buying the Studio Display.
We finally settled on $200 and my old Sony as payment.
I have to say, it is surprising what having such a huge amout of real estate does for you. My spread sheets and drawings are so much easier to work on now. I do not do very much photoshop work (only for personal use, touch up pictures of the family etc) but having the larger monitor really does make things easier.
I am very happy that I decided to start looking before my Sony actually died.
