dual processor G5 PowerMac video card requirements?

Hi guys,

just wondering if u could help me with this question.

can I buy any AGP ATI 4* or 8* card for a new powermac, or do I need to get the mac 1?

I have been looking at getting the X850XT ATI 256 card for the PM and cant find one listed as "MAC"

What do you think as far as a PM anyway:

What would be faster,

a) PM dual2 with X850xt ati card
b) PM dual2.3 with stock ati 9600 card?

I guess this is 2 questions thanks for help with both.

I have been trying to decide if I should buy a faster processor PM or go with the Base model and Maxout the Video Card?

The graphics card will not affect the performance of the Power Mac G5 (at least, not when you're talking about the difference between the 9600 and the X800XT) unless you're doing things like playing high-requirement games. In that case, getting a lower processor-speed G5 with the better X800XT graphics card is the better choice. You're not getting a whole lot more with an extra 300 MHz, either, on the higher-end model.

FYI- The G5 requires 8X video cards - 4X cards will not function.

Video editing, photoshop and games all get significantly faster with higher end cards.

You need the mac version...

you can buy it direct from ATI on ati.com's shop for canada, in the mac section.

or at the same time as your powermac, from Apple.
