I need to charge my shuffle, but i don't have the a/c for the ibook with me and i need to use it later today... Will the Shuffle still get chraged if the ibook is powered up but on sleep mode(trying to save batt power on the ibook)?

No. Power to the USB ports is cut off when the ibook sleeps... Blackberry chargers work if you have access to one...

i think i'll be building one of these battery operated charger for my wifes Shuffle. it's a pain trying to charge it on a computer. it takes at least two hours, and like nbr10 says, the usb ports aren't on when the mac is a sleep.

ok good to know... i guess the next best thing is to turn off the screen to save battery power? I'm not working on my ibook right now so it's not in use- except for charging up the shuffle...

Or just pick up the shuffle battery pack. 2 "AAA" batteries and 20 hours of life.

it looks and integrates well with the shuffle, but only prob is that it doesn't charge the shuffle, only extends the power usage. the shuffle's battery life when fully charged is more than adequate. if only it charged the shuffle when not in use, i'd buy it ... another barrier is that it costs $40.

If you have an Airport Express BS you can plug the shuffle into the USB port on it and it will charge it too.
