Changing my mind on Tiger date

I have said before that the April 1st/15th dates looked like an elaborate April fool's hoax, even taking into account the fact that Apple was created on that date

However, yesterday I had a long chat with a neighbour who works in the UK sub of a major software supplier (let's not set the lawyers off by quoting their name...) He made two interesting comments:

- Apple are behaving with them as if they were going to ship mid-April
- Adobe is launching a major upgrade on the next business day (which, I guess would be 4th April)

I won't be running to my bookmaker's but it is now a distinct possibility that all those delayed Minis will benefit from a free Tiger upgrade coupon!

From past experience with Panther, it's the shipping date that counts...

I doubt they'd pre-install it. They might throw a copy in your box, though.

my powerbook shipped on mar 16 and arrived mar 18

i debated as to whether or not I should buy my powerbook before or after tiger...

i had already placed an order with apple for my notebook, but then i changed my mind and called apple to cancel...
when i talked to the operator...i asked him whether or not i would get tiger with my notebook if i ordered it now, and he said no, but they gave me 75 bucks off my purchase price of my powerbook...so i took it

he told me that as long as your computer is not in "shipped" status, and the release of tiger is "announced" (april 1st???) then you will get either a free upgrade to tiger when it comes out, or you will get it packaged.
so if you have ordered your mini already, and they haven't shipped it before they make their release announcement on tiger, you can get tiger with it.

from the looks of it, the minis are being delayed a lot
and i'm assuming they have none in stock right now

you might even be able to call them now, "pretend" that you want to cancel because it doesn't haev tiger in it, and they might give u the 75 bucks off like they did for me. and in the event that it still ships after the announcement date, then you basically get tiger + the 75 off

for myself,
i figured im not gonna wait for tiger, ill just upgrade panther 4 months later when all/some of the bugs are worked out of tiger

btw

the rumour going around is that the "release" of tiger will be "announced" april 1... but it won't ship til april 15th or so

no clue on whether they will package it right away with existing mac models, but i'm sure they will give you a coupon or a cd for the free upgrade later.
