Here we go again! New Hard drive...partition thoughts?!

Well it's that time of year again folks! I'm hopefully getting my brand spanking new 17" this afternoon and I'm looking for a new configuration. Got 100Gigs now! WOO HOO!

This is how I had my last 80 gig divided:
-osx swap 1 gig (front of the drive)
-photoshop/illustrator swap 5 gig
-everything else on the rest

First...i intend on installing the new Tiger when it comes out. I'm not totally concerned with giving it a "test run" on a seperate partition and keeping a partition of Panther because I find that to be a huge honking waste of space. I've got my 40 gig ipod to backup on if I need to make an image of Panther in case Tiger is a POS (which I highly doubt it will be). PLUS, if I decide Tiger is great, then I have to totally redo the whole hard drive to get rid of Panther. Big waste of time as far as I'm concerned. Thoughts?

Second...I've been hearing talk lately about keeping the system on one partition, the applications on another partition, and my files on yet another partition. What are the pros/cons/pointlessness of this? Would i run into problems with programs recognizing files like iphoto and itunes? Thoughts?

This would be the partition setup then:
osx swap 1 gig (enough for Tiger??)
photoshop/illustrator swap 5 gig
system partition 5 gig (how big is Tiger going to be anyway?)
application partition 10 gig
files - the rest of the hard drive

Third...I can't remember the process necessary to make a bootable image of Panther. What I would like to be able to do is have a bootable image of Panther on my ipod. This way if Tiger sucks or if I run into issues, I'll be able to take that bootable image and transfer it to my computer (I would be able to do this wouldn't I?..or is it just stuck on my ipod?) What program is necessary? What process is necessary?

It's been a while since we've discussed this subject...and with Tiger coming out I'm sure a lot of you have insight on new things that need to be thought let 'er rip!
