VLC 3.0.10 vs MacOS 10.13.6

I've used VLC as my go-to for ALL my music & video files. This new version, 3.0.10, is the only one which ever gave me trouble.

Probably a software conflict. But VLC hangs my MacOS 10.13.6 every single time, requiring a hard restart.

Of course, tried all the usual tricks. No cigar!

Nope, I'm not giving up on a real Mac OS!

Ideas? TIA!

Have you tried running the correct version of OnyX for your OS?

It is my go to app for oddball behaviour and many times solves the issue.

You can download OnyX free here, just be sure to select the version for 10.13.6 and run the "Maintenance" tab.

Good luck with it.

Give IINA a try. I gave up on VLC in favour of it.

Why does VLC keep crashing Mac?
Yes, the crash is known (it is caused by the new security protections mechanism introduced in macOS 10.14) and we fixed that in VLC 3.0. 7. So please update to that version.Jun 9, 2019

Just might be a fix for you if you haven't done so already with an update.

Since my last issue (sleeping with the fishes), I've always tried OnyX first. No dice this time.

Have been using Mac Media Player; no hangs in some days. It's not as good for music. I sure like the way VLC numbers tracks, names tracks, artists, akbum, genre.

Will try Pine Player. Downloaded IINA. Will give it a try, thanks.

Thanks, Patrick. But VLC is not crashing. It hangs everything, forcing a hard restart. I've reverted to 2.2.8 to see if it helps. Have ticked VLC in the Accessibility prefs.

Can you make a new user account, load VLC and see if it does the same thing there?

Try running the most recent version of VLC after booting up using Safe Boot Mode.

I don't think it will need to utilize any extension it might need.
