clear Nail Polish and Apple keyboards

I am on my 3 rd apple wireless magic 2 extended keyboard
lucky always changed under warranty..

but seems the ink that apple uses for screen printing always wears off..
so i got another replaced under warranty and this time i used wife's clear coat nail polish and applied it to all the keys - lets see if this works..

I have a matias backlit keyboard and it works.. i guess it is part of the keyboard the lettering is not printed.

I have that extended wireless keyboard, had it for maybe 2 years, probably a bit less. No wear on any of the buttons outside some of the dirt that white keys pick up. Letters are all there, nothing fading. Maybe needs more time, how long do yours last?

My keyboard is much older then that and I use it every day for work with no keys wearing off. Now I am not typing huge reports or anything but it is used regularly throughout the day. There was another brand that made what looked like an identical Apple extended keyboard, it was out before Apple had theirs, might be worth searching out and trying to see if it holds up better. Trying to remember the name, I know there was a thread about it but for the life of me I cannot remember it.

ok found it

yes, as mentioned i have their backlit wireless extended keyboard and no issues..
originally bought their non backlit and the letters wore off but they upgraded me to the backlit for free - so it has to do with the screen printing..

i will post back in a month and let you know how my nail polish solution works lol..

If you got to read this article but it might help:
How to prevent letters fading on your Mac’s keyboard
https://www.macissues.com/2015/03/30...macs-keyboard/

And lots of other hits and suggestions as well here:

i guess they just don't make some things the same as both our Apple aluminum extended wired keyboards are as clear and as good as the day we got them some 10 - 12 years ago.

Do you by chance use a lot of hand sanitizer? Most have Ethyl alcohol as a primary alcohol and isopropyl a secondary... if it;'s not completely absorbed in to the skin it may be causing the accelerated wear on the keyboard letters.
