Jony Ive is leaving Apple

Jony Ive to Form Independent Design Company with Apple as Client
Apple today announced that Sir Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, will depart the company as an employee later this year to form an independent design company which will count Apple among its primary clients. While he pursues personal projects, Ive in his new company will continue to work closely and on a range of projects with Apple.

I'd be much more filled with relief and glee if he and Apple had just seperated themselves completely and Apple got in some new blood and idea designers.

Actually something that should have happened some years ago.

Hopefully he will be completely removed from any OS development!!! PLEASE...!!!

Huge sigh of relief. He's way past his "best before" date.

One of the best summary comment on the topic I've read so far:
[QUOTE]I don’t worry that Apple is in trouble because Jony Ive is leaving; I worry that Apple is in trouble because he’s not being replaced. /QUOTE]

And should have happened years ago.

Ive is responsible for the iPad and iPhone and I believe those two products took Apple from a run of the mill computer manufacturers to a multi-billion dollar technological leader that others try to emulate. I hope the stock doesn't take too much of a beating.

like the rest I would be happy to see his connection with Apple completely cut. Looks like he will still be doing the same thing just under his own company now.

I always felt like Jobs and Ives were a good team and that Jobs knew how to use Ives talent and keep it reigned in.

With any luck the trend of making everything thinner for thinner’s sake ends.

100% agree. They have gone too far into form and ignoring function. It was a good... no great balance when Jobs was running the show. Now Apple seems all about image and patting themselves on the back for how good they are and how they are changing the world.
