Finally!

Of course since I won't be updating to Apple's latest and greatest OS anytime soon, I won't benefit, but this change is way past being overdue.

It’s the end of a music era. Nearly two decades after launching iTunes and ripping up the retail-store model of album purchases, Apple is ready to retire the iconic product, according to Bloomberg. During the software keynote at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California next Monday, the tech giant is set to replace iTunes with standalone music, television and podcast apps.

The move, which has been rumored for years now, will align Apple’s media strategy across the board: iPhones and iPads already offer separate Music, TV and Podcast apps in lieu of the centralized iTunes app that lives on Macs and Macbooks. Users can expect the new Music app to offer some of the same functionalities that iTunes currently does — such as purchasing songs and syncing phones — just with a sleeker interface that’s free of the outdated and oft-bemoaned features of the heritage product, and more closely bundled with streaming service Apple Music.

Wonder how one will back up and restore iPads and iPhones without iTunes?

Given Apple's recent history, it might prove interesting.

If they're doing what I suspect they are doing; just splitting the various functionalities into separate apps, nothing much should change but the name of what you launch for music. If they're ditching that completely, well, that'll be my cue to start looking elsewhere.

Well, maybe after separating each function into its own app they'll bring back iSync for all the backing up and synching? I certainly hope there's a wired solution for this, because I cannot afford to spend so much money every ow and then for so much iCloud storage.

Cheers

No doubt the same way many have been doing for ages:
how to backup an ipad or iPhone without iTunes
https://www.google.com/search?q=how+...hrome&ie=UTF-8

And for those who wanted a better and complete backup are using iMazing.app or maybe something similar:
https://imazing.com/download

iTunes didn't even do a full reccoverable backup or probide any method to go backward as many often wanted to do, especiallyt with some of Apple's "latest and greatest" iOS versions.

I wonder what bits and pieces and residue will be left for us older users left to use and who will NOT be going up to their newest and latest and greatest mac OS X??? And I think there are a fair number of us.

There may be a transition period - like they did with Photos and iPhoto, being able to co-habitate on your system for a period of years...
