Remember, not too long ago, that the Canadian government stuck a levey (Not a tax LOL!!!) on blank CDs and DVDs with the excuse that would help pay the music artists for their work.

Well, I know several such local artists and each time I have asked them how much they got paid from the fund, none of them had received a penny and were told when ever they asked why, they weret told they were not popular enough!!! Go figure!!!

The real kicker was they often had to pay the tax on their own blank media to burn onto or have their music pressed on to the discs.

I have no idea how any music artist may get paid from any Streaming Service these days!!! But what ever it is, I'll bet it's a very small percentage, and probably the reason why it is so popular for those providing the service.

Like everything else, It all comes down to money!!!

A good friend of mine is a musician as well, has a few albums he recently put up on iTunes. I will have to remember to ask him if he gets any payments from iTunes music. I am assuming Apple only pays when your media has been played on their streaming service.

I do remember the taxes we paid for blank media, what a joke that was. Our government likes to suck every last penny they can from us.

Not forgetting that the blank optical disk "levy" still exists!!!

And yes Apple, quite a few Mac users still use them regardless what you might think!!

PS: The government doesn't do the collecting:
Quote:
The private copying levy is not a tax. It is a royalty paid to music rights holders. Unlike a tax, which is collected by the government, the private copying levy is collected by the CPCC to provide remuneration to rights holders for private copying. The private copying levy is earned income for rights holders and helps them to continue to create music.
