CD's Keep getting stuck.-Imac 2007

Hey guys,
My super drive was working great, not when I put a disk in and try to eject it does not always come out. Eventually I get it out. But every time I put a disk it is pain to get it out and takes numerous times to eject the disk. You can hear the ejecting noise over and over but the disk does not pop out.. almost like its stuck.... any suggestions? Who the heck do I see if somethings stuck??

thanks
Jim

Check very carefully with some sort of straightedge, and make sure the disks are not catching on the edge of the iMac case. Also, make sure there is no gunk or stuff built up on the brush that's usually across the opening.

Many laptops would often have the same problem and the solution was to realign the opening and/or sometimes use a nail manicure emery board to make the slot wider. Or even a Dremel type tool used with care. I'm sure you get the idea.

With the price of externals these days ($40 for a CD/DVD burner) you might be better off to buy one instead of risking losing a disc.

This. I bought and use a Samsung for $39 and it works well, plus I can manually remove a disk if need be. Simple and inexpensive solution.

Could also just be the servo that moves the load/eject assembly is getting tired. I've had that happen several times; I had a Sony desktop stereo that had a vertical slot load CD. Eventually it struggled to lift the CD back out. My solution was to give it to my dad.

And when the one in the car gives out, you're stuck listening to Raffi's Greatest Hits until you sell the vehicle.

Aggghhh.... In such a case, that would mean IMMEDIATELY, but I'd have to wonder how in the hell any Raffi CD got installed in the CD layer in the first place!!! *

EDIT:

PS: An old client is having the opposite trouble with his MacBook in that it often won't allow any optical disk to be inserted.

Using the Terminal drutil eject sometimes helped as did using the ForcEject Tool.app sometimes, otherwise the use of a credit card would be needed to move whatever leaver was blocking access out of the way, then it would work. No foreign objects seemed to be blocking the way.

Anyone know of a simple quick fix for such a problem???

Buying and using a $40.00 external optical drive seems to be the best choice, especially to avoid any hassles.

Clearly the CD player "Took one for the team" and ensured it could never be played elsewhere 8)

I think getting an external CD drive is the easiest and simplest solution. Curious what you are loading by CD? I cannot remember the last time I loaded any CD or DVD on any of my Macs. Must have been at least 5 years.

I still rip DVDs on my old cheese grater. I also have a client who wants a CD of the work I did as a copy/back-up.

It is a hassle but it is hard to convince people who are set in their ways even though drives don't exist on newer computers. :-)
