I really don't like where they have the camera at all, and to be honest, I like having a notch; it's a nice reminder of where not to put my greasy fingers. For sure there are some neat advancements.

Something to consider if you do decide to take the plunge; you are at the mercy of your carrier for software (OS) updates. You basically have to wait for Google, then Samsung, then your carrier before you get updates. It can take months if it happens at all, or at least that was the case when i took a stroll on the dark side. It's frustrating. I got a total of two updates in the year I had my Note, and by the time I had switch back to iPhone, I was a full Android release behind (and it wasn't expected for months still.)

I am not too concerned about updates, Apple less and less even has me wanting to upgrade my OS. I also buy my phones outright from Apple and would do the same if I bought a Samsung. Not sure if that changes anything in that regard.

It will be a few years before I switch from my new XR so who knows what will happen in that time. My fingers never go anywhere near the notch or the top of any iPhone I have had before so that would not be an issue for me. I think part of it is other companies are doing exciting things whereas Apple really just talks themselves up while not offering a whole of new stuff. Now Apple has done amazing things, just it seems to be dwindling and their BIG ideas are not all that big. Touch bar on the MacBook pro? Even the iPhone X while it looks great still was just following some Android phone trends. Face ID has been around a while (cannot compare, no idea if Apple Face ID is better then Android). Wireless charging again around a while and there was already fast charging which Apple still has not opted for. The iPhone X sill has a bezel where some founds have started rounded the screen around the edge making it look like there is no bezel.

Feels like I am ranting all the time about Apple and I people obviously still love the company, I have just stopped caring as much about anything they do because it does not Appeal to me or seems to be going in a backwards direction.

For me, I just want a good quality phone with a great camera that will not break the bank. $1500.00 for a phone is insane for me.

To keep things in perspective.

If you think iPhones are expensive you should price hearing aids. There is no way these hearing aids should cost anywhere near an iPhone let alone the exorbitant prices advertised. The hearing aid technology is no where near as complicated as an iphone and in most cases less than perfect. Rechargeable batteries are a "big deal" in their world.

Should you be unlucky enough to loose you hearing you will know what I am talking about.

Cheers,

It is very easy to say what things should and should not cost. These are companies in it to make profit, they are not charities. You know who is to blame for the ever rising Apple costs? We the consumer who keep buying the product.

Apple has to pay a huge amount for staffing, R&D, and all sorts of things to keep the company moving forward. They would be dead in the water if they were only making a small percentage of profit. They could still make a ton of money and have a cheaper product but it does not seem to be slowing down so why would they?

Yes they can be quite expensive, but they have certainly made some fast changes and improvements within the last eight years, and some real drastic improvements in the last five years.

And speaking of price, I dare say that the top end at the time, Resound brand model I got from our local Costco Center some six years ago have been excellent and cost about one third less than quoted from a "reputable" Hearing aid store, and their normal zinc-air hearing aid batteries cost less than half than most others and are excellent batteries, and last me just over a week.

I don't need any overprice smartphone, IPhone or not, as my old Samsung flip phone suits me just fine thank you and holds a charge for weeks between charges and gets an annual top-up of $25~$50 through 711 SpeakOut. Yes, I'm a minimal Cellphone user, and it suits me just fine. ;-)

Just in case nobody has read some of the articles, take some samples:
It's official: iPhones are too expensive
https://mashable.com/article/iphones-are-too-expensive/

Making the $1,249 iPhone XS only costs Apple $443
https://nypost.com/2018/09/26/making...sts-apple-443/

No real surprises...

One of the real questions a lot of people should be asking themselves, Do they really need a smart cellphone, or would a much cheaper DumberCell phone work for their needs just as well???

Even if it would, my two bits says they will spend the extra money just to keep up with or exceed the Joneses ~ And Apple and Samsung etc. all know that. You might even call it marketing.

Not sure if I am like most but I use my iPhone for just about everything but a phone. Rarely make calls but using various messaging services like iMessage and google hangouts to communicate. Same goes for friends in my social circle. Phone is great for emergencies but just about everything else is done via text with a data connection.

Yep, rarely make over 10 minutes of calls a month. Hate talking on the phone. Rather a text. Use it plenty for info and news and searches.
