Bodega is closing - Your corner store for Mac apps

Is anyone else going to miss Bodega or know of a similar replacement??

It seems from their website:

Bodega is closing

The Bodega services will be permanently terminated starting September 9th 2014. Thank you for all our supporters and users throughout the last 5 years.

Bodega: Your corner store for Mac apps

Bummer!!

It's been a great useful site for software and update checks for me and I'm sure many others.

To be very honest, I'd never heard of them.

Their fate was more or less sealed when Apple created the App Store. It would be difficult for any company to create a replacement for this site when the developer of the OS and the hardware runs their own App Store.

I used to use Bodega for a while, but found some idiosyncrasies (don't remember now what they were) that made me uninstall it. I do not remember clearly, but I think it had something to do with showing already installed updates as needing to update or showing available updates but not permitting downloads or something like that.

It is a great concept though, because the App store only works for Apple apps while Bodega works for all apps.

Doesn't MacUpdate work similarly?

Cheers

I used it for a little while and then dumped it.

Couldn't see the point.

I could get everything I needed/wanted from the Mac App Store or from developers' sites.

Bodega just put in another layer.

Considering that hardly anyone here has heard of it (I haven't), perhaps it wasn't advertised very much?

The UI looks pretty neat.

Had I known about this site, I might very well have become a regular user, although now with the App Store, it seems redundant and thus is closing.

I might be mistaken, but I think Bodega is a little different from the Mac App Store. If I remember correctly, the Mac App Store only auto-updates Apple apps while Bodega updates any app that's installed on the machine, irrespective of whether they are from Apple or other developers.

Sinc, even with the App Store now, Bodega is not redundant because of what I said above.

Bodega is a great concept and even though I no longer use it, I am sorry to see it go. There was nothing like it and still is nothing like it. Well, maybe MacUpdate, but I am not sure.

Cheers

From my experience, the App Store update any apps that is installed via the App Store.
