VirtualBox <=> Mavericks

I wanted to play with VirtualBox today on my 2011 MBP. I'm still running 10.6.8 and it was fairly painless to create a 10.6.8 VM that seems to work fine.

Mavericks wouldn't come to the party. I followed some instructions from the web to create an ISO of the Mavericks installer. VirtualBox would see that and start the installation process. Some minutes later, however, it complained that the install couldn't be completed.

Google seems to indicate that others have made it work but it is hard to be sure just what version of VirtualBox (I have 4.3.10 r93012) and which version of Mavericks (I think I've got the original release version of 10.9).

Any pointers on things to do/not do? Good web pages? Etc?
