Back up w/ Air Disk for 2 Macs

So, I just bought friends of mine an external after theirs went south. They had a time capsule who's HD was messy so I don't think they've been backing up for a min.

I bought them a 2TB ext which should be plenty fine as they both have Airs. My q? is the following:

Would there be a preferred config for them to share the ext as a back up?? I'm assuming it will simply create two sep folders but just wanted to make sure that the ext should not be partitioned or anything like that.

AFAIK, as long as the two MacBook Airs have different names (i.e. John's Macbook Air and Mary's MacBook Air) there should be no confusion, and two independent sparse bundle files would be created. If the two are named the same, there might be confusion.

Also, you know it is pretty straight forward to replace the HDD in the Time Capsule with a new one. You might need a hair dryer to help release the adhesive on the bottom pad, but all else is easy to do. The end result would be more likely used than swapping a portable HDD around.
