Mac Pro Available to Order

It won't ship until January, but you can finally see it and spec it in the Apple Online store.

It's $4555 at Amazon so actually Apple's price is pretty damn good.

north of $10,000 after tax for a fully decked out Mac Pro.

ouch.

the sad thing is there is no more dual processor mac pros. for those really looking for the bleeding edge they'll have to look elsewhere.

Why do you need dual processors anymore?

for those who need (or want) the bleeding edge it would be hugely beneficial to go from 12 cores to 24 cores, as in twice the CPU rendering power.

i couldn't disagree more. i could build a dual 12 core processor machine that would destroy apple's top offering for thousands of dollars less. it just wouldn't be as tiny.

Shipping times have already slid from Dec 30th to January now to February. Either Apple can't make a lot of these, or there's pent up demand, or both!

You can also now replace your Trash Can icon with a Mac Pro (empty and full!)

I say that because the D700 FirePro is essentially the same as the W9000 FirePro and 2 of those will run you about $7000 and then that 12-core Xeon will run you about $2700. Just those alone get you to the price of the fully spec'd out Mac Pro and then you still need a case, power supply, motherboard, storage, memory, etc.
