Can iTunes store be hacked?

Our daughter purchased an app fro the iTunes store yesterday morning using an e-mail account that she uses for personal business. Today she received two messages in her spam box addressed to her from her. These were replies from job applications done much earlier in the year. They contained "out of office " replies from the companies she was applying at and she had already received these answers. She has since changed her password but is concerned about her information stored on iTunes, i.e. her credit card number and personal information.
Will someone advise us what other steps should betaken PDQ
Thanks

If you have any concerns, it'd probably be a good idea to contact the iTunes Store.

While the iTunes Store itself as a whole for sure wasn't "hacked", individual accounts can be hacked by unscrupulous hackers just by guessing common passwords or other similar methods. (Hacking other social media sites or lesser protected sites where user uses the same password etc..)

Your instance doesn't really sound like the account was hacked though, usually that's done for monetary purposes, like buying content off of iTunes.

My daughter just got a new iPhone, and she was setting up her iTunes and buying a few apps for the first time. In doing so, she launched her actual Mac OS X email Mail App, and received a ton of messages from the past year. It turns out, she had always been checking email from within Safari at iCloud.com, and this was the first time she had launched the actual Mail app in a long time.

With your daughter, it could have been something similar or any number of possible scenarios. It doesn't sound like anything was actually compromised.

Sounds more like a mail application or mail server glitch to me.

I was thinking her mail server. Possibly the result of reverting to an archived copy.

Does she currently, or did she in the past, use OS X Mail?

Are you implying that there is some sort of a link?
