Confused on iPad

Hello all, I've finally decided to purchase an iPad, but I am extremely confused. The new iPad is the 4th gen correct? But I'm also looking at refurb which is 2 and 3rd gen. So I've been price matching and I can't seem to find out if a refurb 2 or 3 with higher storage is better than a 4th with lessor (. I'm looking at a value ceiling here ). I've read many reviews and I am no better off for reading them. I'm leaning to the 16 as I have a mini which I can pull media from and store. I'm also only looking at wi-fi. So I would welcome your thoughts....I sometimes think Apple makes margin upgrades and touts them as revolutionary. Your thoughts are welcome.

2nd gen is old res screen. 3rd and 4th are Retina. 4th is 2X faster than 3rd and uses Lightning connector. After that it's your choice on how much storage you need.

Thanks Atroz, I get the retina display, but is the connector an issue and where does the speed come into play running media or web browsing? I've been looking ata 64 gig gen3 for $499, but I can get a gen 4 16gig for that. I've read on a UK site that the speed really isn't that much of a factor between them but I am wondering about the connector.

When you say you have a Mini, do you mean a mac mini or an iPad mini? If it is an iPad mini then you already have a device that uses the lightning port and may want to stay with it. If you mean Mac Mini, then that doesn't matter. Lightning is he future though.

I went from iPad 1 to iPad 4, the speed difference was very noticeable on starting apps, web browsing, etc. I can't judge the iPad 2 and 3.

You seem to have the option of a lot of storage on a Gen 3, or lots of speed on a Gen 4. I'd go for the Gen 4 unless you really have a need for massive storage. E.g. Video or music libraries. I'd also suggest though that you consider saving up an extra $100 to get the 32 Gig model to give you some headroom.

Atroz that helps a lot. I have two mac minis actually an'09 and a '12 love them both. So it seems the 32 gig 4th gen is my better option so thanks. You can certainly get technologically ghettoised these days.

Don't get the 3rd gen unless it is ONLY for web, video, music and emails. I read that the GPU isn't fast enough for the retina display if you want to play games.

There's a 128GB in the offering now as well.

There's also the option of waiting for sales - Staples will sometimes have 10% off iPads and FutureShop/BestBuy will often have $20-$50 off current gen iPads as well. Just as an FYI.

Bunch of rubbish. I play Infinity Blade II on my 3rd gen, that's about as demanding as it gets. It's lovely.

I'm certain the 2x GPU increase on the 4th gen is important for harder-core gamers than I, but as I say I haven't run into anything where the 3rd gen isn't up to the challenge.

I agree with chas_M. I too have a 3rd gen and I have actually had someone knock on my truck's window while playing Sky Gamblers. The elbows were flying around so much that they thought i was having a epileptic fit!
