OSX Upgrade q? re: Keychain
 
so, been having keychain issues that I thought I was just eventually going to resolve with a massive OS re install. But I've been looking to move to Lion and am wondering:

If I simply upgrade to Lion, will I see some Keychain resolution?

Specifically around email - my Mail app has gone up in smoke, and it's been a mild burden on the work flow, but I've been stalling - thinking of wiping my drive is still not that attractive - though I feel i'm still due (been too long - upgrade after upgrade after upgrade).
Lion is seemingly stable now, so I was just curious.

Anyhow, anyone w/ wisdom, thanks!

You'll have to elaborate on "keychain issues". It's possible that upgrading would resolve them, but it's equally possible that a simple Keychain repair would resolve them, too.

Equally possible it'll get worse. For me, Xcode and iTunes were totally messed up since installing lion. They always asked my permission to do everything a la windows. Xcode was resolved by changing the owner of one of my developer identities, which worked and the iTunes one I've tried resolving any number of ways according to directions on the web... Including checking permissions on a bunch of files and manually removing the affected files. No luck.

Ahhh pardon. It was late.

So, i have a few email addresses set up on Mail and now they're are in various states of operation. Some can't receive email as they keep asking for password - telling me it's wrong. This had happen very rarely in past and I would simply type the password back in. Now, nothing resolves it. Tossed the keychain folder out and went for a refresh (that was close as there were some very old passwords I somehow recalled), and even after that, nothing.

So I need something close to a complete reinstall. I was thinking of reinstalling ONLY Mail as that was an option, but would it fix my issue.

just a quick question... if you are having keychain issues, why don't you delete them and try again rather an OS install - not sure your OS reinstall will help?

if you go to your utilities folder inside of your applications you will find keychain access
open it and delete the apple mail keychains and see if that makes a difference.

but keychains are only for password issues..
Do you want to elaborate exactly what is the issue.

I had the same issue the other day..
so I ended up tossing the prefs and folder associated to mail in my user library folder.
and re set up my rogers imap, then my two exchange accounts and everything is back to normal..
but be careful before you decide to delete or remove prefs
as you need to make sure your account is imap or exchange otherwise if is POP you will lose everything.. [imap and exchange are stored on the server ]
