Checked out an iPad 2 at WestWorld yesterday. After the initial, wow-is-this-cool feeling, it was like, OK, so it's white and a little thinner and lighter, and the camera app is like the one on my iPhone, but other than that, it's not really much different than the first one, which my kids have. These Apple guys are master marketers, right down to no-signs-of the-previous (and now cheaper) iPad anywhere. You read about the sold out vendors around the world and people paying $200 to $400 more for one on eBay and it's pretty clear that Apple must be doing something right. You don't see people grabbing up a Xoom as the next best thing. Scary.

+1
Even the idea to launch it at 5pm was genius. They got so much free publicity on the NEWS here in Ottawa.

With at least another 2 weeks till my iPad is delivered, the excitement has definitely worn off. Nevertheless, Apple got my money (unless I cancel the order, that is). Maybe this will re-excite those of us who have been waiting:

What you didn't see what the much faster processor and graphics processor that both give you a better experience. I have an iPad and can't justify the iPad 2 for these right now. However, I gotta wonder what apps will come out in the next 6-12 months that may make more compelling to get a faster one. Right now, I'm hoping to skip this gen and see what comes next.

I have the 2 and while the one is still perfectly serviceable, the shiny new one is most definitely more responsive and honestly more comfortable to hold than the old one. If I'd had an old one? Likely wouldn't have been so eager to get a new one.

Whats more interesting about all of this is that in my experience and according to a few stories I've read online, the majority of people buying the new one are new customers for the iPad. This I'd a very good thugs for Apple.
