Question for any iPhone 4 users about data usage...
Hey guys, my wife and I have had the new phone for about a week now and she just got a text from Fido warning her that she was already 75% through her 500mb data plan. This confused me at first, but then I realized that since we joined towards the end of our billing cycle we'd only get a portion of that data for the month. She has the 500mb and I've got the 6gb.
So here is the weird thing. Our cycle ends today and our data limits should renew tomorrow but right now the phone is showing about 500mb of usage already. I said thats not possible already so I checked mine to compare. Mine says 400mb sent and 5.3gb received! This isn't possible at all. I've had the 6gb plan for years and hardly ever go over 1gb and that was with streaming tv and radio over 3G. I haven't done any of this with the new phone yet.
Anyone notice anything strange about their usage so far?
Mine has been recording the data usage very accurately. Not sure why yours shows difference. I suggest you do a "Reset Statistics" and monitor the usage for the next month since your billing cycle starts today. It'll give you insight as your data usage.
iMac 21.6" 2.5Ghz i5, 8GB, 120GB OWC SSD, 500GB HDD
Apple TV (3rd Gen)
If you restored from back up, it will bring all your old settings and usage with it. So if you have never reset that Data Usage page, then don't be alarmed. Does FIDO have an app you can download to track it month-to-month? Rogers does.
24" iMac - 3.06GHz, 4GB, 500GB+2TB+500GB
64GB iPad (Wi-Fi only), 64GB iPhone 4S, 80GB iPod, 8GB iPod nano, 2 x 40GB Apple TV
That's exactly what it was. I actually called Apple to try and get an answer and the guy had no idea why it was so high. Eventually he asked if I'd restored from a previous backup, which I had. That was the problem. It had kept my stats from the previous few months or however long it was. Problem solved.
FYI: Fido does have an app for this stuff but I changed my plan when I got the new phone last week and the app wasn't able to update my info yet.
You can try DataMan. It's a real time data usage manager for iPhone with custom usage alerts. You will be notified when you exceed the thresholds. This will help to stop additional charges on your bill. You can find DataMan in the App Store.
