Question wanting a black iphone 32G 3GS - none on rogers site?

hi there,

I realize this probably has something to do with the impending rogers iphone 4g launch later this month, but I'm wondering if any of you folks here on this site (being much more experienced at the processes of these launches than I) know what the scoop is with rogers and the iphones currently available on their site.

I went to the site to preliminarily check out pricing for the 32G 3GS, only to find the only have an 8g 3gs, not what i want.

i was planning to get the top of the line 3gs post the launch of the 4g, in hopes that either I can
a) pick one up second hand that is in good shape still (maybe even online here at ehmac)
b) buy a new one, as I've been with rogers for years, *and* am due for a phone upgrade, so I'm hoping to use some of that to horse trade my way into a killer data plan deal.

so if any of you know what the scoop is with why there are no iphones on the site, that would be great. are they jsut waiting till after the launch to put them back on with new prices? or are they just not boinbto offer them anymore?

enquiring minds!

thanks in advance for all your help
leanne

My understanding is that when the reduced prices on the 16 and 32 gb 3GS it was to clear stock. Going forward only the 8 gb 3GS and the iPhone 4 will be avaialbe new. That said if your heart is set on the 3GS you'll need to go second hand. Should be plenty of upgraders looking to sell. Personally I'll be getting a iPhone 4 just as soon as it comes out here.

hm. maybe that is what i'll end up doing then...I am interested in the idea of the new iphone but as it's my first foray into the world of iphones (though I've used and loved macs for years...) and am not superflush with money I thought I'd start with the 3g top of the line option.

a friend was selling his for 150 with an amazing plan at rogers to take over but I missed as it went really quickly (as you can imagine - though it wasn't 32 it was i think 16, it remained a great deal as the data plan worked for me perfectly, i will use a lot of data).

as an additional question, how likely does it seem that rogers will offer any kinds of promotions around data packages? I'd love to get myself into a 6g data plan (if that is what it is called - one of the big data plans) and try to lock it in, as I'm going to just keep getting iphones so might as well lock into the best plan possible earlier on or during a promotion...I realize this may be hard to predict but I know folks on here know the 'patterns' of launching iphones more than i do....

thanks for your response and keep em coming!

and I'll c ertainly be watching for phones for sale with big chunky data plans and phone plans from rogers, particularly if it's attached to a black 32g 3gs!

guess august will be my month if it's probly launching end of july, will start saving my pennies now!

My 32GB iPhone 3GS will be for sale shortly. It's locked to Rogers, but it's unlockable!

it definitely seems the solution is

to wait till august and look at what the launch does to the 'market' in gs3 iphones.

part of the reason I wanted to look at prices was to guesstimate what they might go for post the launch; what the overall price drop would be (so I could also figure out what I need to save up!).

i'm not familiar enough with how much prices generally drop to know what that looks like.

I'm fine with taking over an existing contract, particularly if it's data heavy, and with getting a second hand phone if it's a 32g, and ideally black, though I could live with white, but I'd like it to be within it's first year of operation so I can still invest in the applecare extended warranty (and of course therefore it can't have been jailbroken) - so locked to rogers is aok with me so long as it's not unwarrantyable....

and I will definitely watch for yours when it goes on sale!

does anyone have a sense of price fluctuations post a new launch for iphones, or a prediction or two? I know the prices dropped a lot in a last while even on rogers but I was distracted with work stuff and didn't really track it...
