Cheap options for iPhone data while in US?

Hello,

I am on Rogers and will be travelling to the US for a week. What kind of options do I have for getting data while I am there? I am expecting light usage (maps and twittering), maybe 250 MB?

I am guessing that unlocking my phone might give me more options. For example, will I be able to purchase a short-term data package from AT&T?

Thanks in advance!

You can buy a $30 AT&T phone that comes with a $15 talk card. If you unlock your iPhone you can use this sim card in your phone.

My light usage turned into over $80 for a week. I got the $10 US data roaming option last year for a trip to NY, cost me about $15 for a couple of days worth of emails and map usage, not too bad I thought. So this year I did the same thing for a week long trip. Mainly map and email usage turned into over $80. I'll take what not to do for $80 Alex.

RTWOM has a good suggestion, however that won't include data. This is why I'm thinking of getting a 3G iPad in the US for my wife. $15 should cover my 3G needs for a week at a time no problem.

Not suggesting you go out and get an iPad for this reason alone. If you are getting one anyway, this is something to think about. Otherwise look elsewhere for a solution.

Depending on what plan you have...

you can add 500MB of US data for $35/month

if you already have the 500mb Canadian. its an extra $10../month

That's new! Both the data plan, and Rogers doing something for it's customers who travel!
