iTunes 9 Home Sharing... so close and yet so far

I've been playing with home Sharing on my home network, and I had high hopes of finally having a method for keeping my home computers in sync with a central server.

It's great that I can see music on other computers that aren't on mine and drag it into the library. but I would love to see that done automatically. Purchases can be automatically synced to other computers, but only purchased content on iTunes, not imported CDs ot digital files.

Why couldn't they just have made it an automatic sync of all new content on the remote computer? It's like they made it to the 2-yard line and gave up there!?!

Oh well, at least it's fairly easy to check once in awhile for new content on the server and drag it in.

Everything I read yesterday said the automatic sync option is there, and there's an option to view what isn't on your computer. Keep poking around with it and you'll find it.

You can sort of do it. On the 2nd computer select _____'s shared Library, then choose "items not in my library" (in the show pull down menu bottom left) . Once you have this list you can import only those items to the 2nd computer. Not true syncing but at least its a step in the right direction.

Once connected, there is a "Settings" button at the bottom - from there you can choose to automatically transfer "new purchases" by category (music, movies, etc.)

Not sure if this is the same as automatically transferring new "items" or not though...
