Hoping to get some advice here, i'm going to be in Europe (England and France) for the next 3 weeks or so, and was going to use my iPhone for Wifi, and am thinking about unlocking it to be able to buy a cheap SIM overseas for texting and a few phone calls here and there.
I've already jailbroken my phone and wonder what the negative implications of unlocking would be when I get back to Canada. Could I really screw something up for my service when I return? Would anything be different? Not too concerned about the whole warranty thing, more about potentially being blacklisted or losing services...
Also, what carriers in the London area would you recommend picking up a SIM card from, and France i'll be all over the country, so any input there, from Paris, to Bordeaux to Nice would be appreciated...
It shouldn't screw things up with the networks. However it can screw your iPhone if you don't unlock it properly. If you're going to europe I think carriers that support the iPhone there would be best such as O2, Orange, T-Mobile.
France is worse than here for paygo. My advice is to get paygo on O2 in the uk (they gave me an official iPhone 3g sim when I was there, with free data for a year) and get a 50mb bolt on for France (20£) cos it's cheaper than the sat rates you'll get on any French carrier without a contract.
