Um, no.

It's a pretty safe bet that Apple will not make any changes to the iPod Touch until after the current student promotion *ends.*

So we're looking at mid-September at the earliest on that.

the iphone will automagically look for wi-fi first and you can set it to only log on to your preferred networks or to give you a list of all those that it can 'see'... if it can't get onto wi-fi it'll use 3G and you can tell from the icon which is being used. when traveling with the phone you can turn 3G roaming off to save the high cost if you're outside the country but you could also do that if you had a minimal data plan and wanted to control where and when you were connected (for instance, every email you receive will count towards your data usage). so you could go to a wi-fi hotspot to get mail, browse the web, etc. without racking up data usage.

So that's not the case for the iPhone? Maybe I shouldn't say I'd never access the internet on it, but that's certainly not the main reason I'd get one. It's not like I need my email accessible every minute of the day or other business-related features.

More than "a few" apps, and I'd also use it as an iPod, SMS, calendar, calculator, camera, pictures, games. And for making phone calls of course

As the all-in-one mobile device that you want to use, it works quite well. However, you had stated that you will not be planning to really use the internet on it, but you will have to pay for a data plan (I think that it is already stated that a data plan might be required). So its whether or not you can afford that.

Well I now that I know the cost is included and you aren't charged every time you use wi-fi, I'm rethinking it.

You dont have to get a data plan at all, I am just using wifi as well (so far at least). All you have to do is pay an extra 50 upfront (but saving alot more in the long run) Then call rogers (or fido) and deactivate data from your acount so you'll never have extra charges.

Didn't that change recently?

Isn't Rogers policy to now only sell if you buy with a data plan. When my GF got hers, we opted for the no data plan etc, but I thought that was no longer an option.

Slightly off topic, but I just wanted to say wow....someone in NB that is happy with Rogers service. You don't see that every day. I do believe that unless you're in Fredericton or Moncton you won't be seeing 3G regardless.

Well I never said I was happy with Rogers, although I haven't had any major problems with them in the past 3 years. But they're a hell of a lot better than Aliant, I can tell you that (especially internet-wise). And I haven't spoken to anyone here who has an iPhone so I don't know how the service is here with Rogers.

Man, that is ridiculous! They always do something like this. Do they not see how EVERYONE (almost) gets upset with them with almost every change. I used to sell their products and even I hated all of their changes, sure a bit more commission for employees here and there but like 50% of people will turn away once they know they HAVE to get data.

50 bucks more was fine, its affordable, but ppl cant all afford to pay another 35 a month.
