Hot Spots no longer working - 2G

I signed up for Rogers $4 a month Hot Spot and it worked for quite a while on my 2G. Then I upgraded the firmware and it no longer works. If I try to access a Rogers Hot Spot I get the welcome to 3G Wifi, which my phone is not so I can't go any further. If I connect to a Bell Hot Spot I get access forbidden or something like that.

I assume it's the firmware upgrade that caused the problem, but I'm wondering if anyone else experienced the same problem? I don't really have any interest in downgrading the firmware, I'm more inclined to save the $4. But if there's a firmware upgrade that solves the problem I might try it.

Thanks.
