Question Gift card to buy gift cards - definite no workaround?

So I have searched through the forums and know you can't use an iTunes card to buy apps and I also read the fine print on the buy an "email gift certificate" page that says gift cards cannot be used to purchase other gift cards.

I was also googling about this and came across this thread:

Can I safely regift an unredeemed itunes gift certificate? | Ask Metafilter

I was going to suggest redeeming it and using the funds to buy a new gift card, but iTunes specifically mentions that you can't do that. So you can't do that.

I'm not so sure iTunes saying you can't do that means you actually can't do that. I have only gift card money in my iTunes account (I've never put anything else in there), and while it tells me gift cards can't be used to buy gift cards, there doesn't seem to be anything stopping me from actually doing that. I didn't go through the entire process, though.

Assuming iTunes stops you somewhere after the gift card purchase form, it looks like you can still buy gifts for specific items in the iTunes store with a gift card. (There's no mention of that not being possible, as there is on the gift card purchase form). So rather than re-gifting the card itself you could use it to buy more specific gifts.
I actually got to the confirm order page myself as well, while clicking "none" for payment method, but didn't click to confirm, as I was testing it out.

I'm just wondering if there really is a brick wall that one will hit after confirming when using gift card funds to buy another gift card? I have a good amount of funds left on my account that I have no use for as I originally thought it could be used for apps (before I looked it up on the net) so my funds are just sitting there. I'd like to give my balance to someone who can make use of it but it looks like there's no way...? Anyone have experience with this or an idea on how I can "gift"/give someone else my remaining iTunes balance?

* Note: It's just a regular ol' iTunes card. Not a promotional one or anything, if that makes any difference.
